How Do our EAP Services work?

The Employee Assistance Program offers 50-minute consultations for the agreed number of sessions determined by your company. Most companies offer between 3 – 6 sessions to their employees. You can choose between two ways of referring your employees to our services:

1. Self-Referral

Any Manager or Staff Member can directly access the EAP for assistance on a voluntary and confidential basis. No prior approval is required. A staff list is required to be provided and placed on your file.

2. HR/Management Approved Referral

The employee will approach their HR/Manager to seek consent to access the EAP. The Managers can also identify and refer individuals to the service as required. The approval will then be sent to us either by:

Most organisations choose the first option as employees feel their privacy is more secure.

Communication Channels

Our counselling services are available face-to-face, via phone, and through secure video counselling (SVC). SVC allows employees to access our high-quality counselling services via a computer, laptop, iPad, or smartphone. Sessions can be held in a private office at work or from the employee’s home or external location.

Research shows that video counselling is equally as effective as face-to-face counselling. Psychology Melbourne is a leading provider of secure video counselling (SVC) in regional and remote areas.

EAP Frequently Asked Questions

What is an Employee Assistance Program (EAP)?

An EAP is a confidential service provided by your company to support employees with personal or work-related challenges that may impact their performance, health, and well-being. This service offers counselling, resources, and support, all aimed at maintaining a healthy and productive workforce.

What are the costs involved for the organisation?

The cost of our EAP services depends on the package you choose and the number of sessions you allocate per employee. We offer flexible, cost-effective packages that are tailored to your organisation’s needs, with no administrative setup fees or early termination charges. You only pay for the services you select, ensuring that your investment is focused on supporting your employees' wellbeing.

What is the process for setting up the EAP?

Setting up our EAP is straightforward. Once you choose the package that best suits your organisation's needs, we will guide you through the setup process, which includes providing employee access to the services, creating any necessary documentation, and training your HR team on how to refer employees.

Can the EAP be customised to fit our organisation’s specific needs?

Yes, our EAP can be fully customised to meet your organisation's specific needs. Whether you need tailored workshops, specific types of counselling services, or particular focus areas, we can design a package that aligns with your company culture and objectives.

What is the process for employees to access the service?

Employees can easily access the EAP through a direct phone line, email, or live chat on our website. They can choose to self-refer confidentially, or they can be referred by HR or management with their consent. We offer flexibility to ensure that employees can access support in a way that suits them best, whether it's through in-person sessions, secure video counselling, or phone consultations.

Is participation in the EAP confidential?

Yes, participation in the EAP is completely confidential. Information shared with a psychologist will not be disclosed to the company without the employee's explicit consent, ensuring trust and privacy, except where there is a legal obligation to report.

How does the EAP integrate with our current HR policies?

Our EAP is designed to complement your existing HR policies and can be seamlessly integrated into your organisation's employee support framework. We work closely with your HR team to ensure that the EAP aligns with your company's policies on confidentiality, employee welfare, and performance management.

What kind of reporting or feedback will the company receive?

We can provide deidentified reports on request that detail overall program utilisation, types of services accessed, and generalised employee issues. This helps you track the program’s effectiveness and make informed decisions about your company's future for employee wellbeing programs and healthy work culture. Importantly, all reports are designed to protect employee confidentiality.

What support is available for managers and HR personnel?

We offer specialised support for managers and HR personnel, including training on how to refer employees to the EAP and manage sensitive situations. Additionally, our coaching services can equip leaders with tools and strategies to handle complex workplace issues, enhancing their ability to support their teams effectively.

What are the options for renewing or scaling the service?

Our EAP services are designed to be flexible and scalable. There are no contract periods, you can easily adjust the number of sessions or expand the range of services as your organisation’s needs evolve. We work with you to ensure the EAP continues to meet your company’s requirements over time.

Are there any costs associated to the employee using EAP?

EAP services are provided at no cost to employees as part of your company’s commitment to their well-being. Should additional sessions be required beyond the allocated amount, employees will be informed about their options, including using a Mental Health Care Plan for subsidised sessions.

How can the EAP benefit the organisation as a whole?

By offering an EAP, your company invests in the overall well-being of its workforce. This leads to reduced absenteeism, enhanced productivity, and a positive work environment, all of which contribute to a healthier, more engaged, and effective workforce.
