The Couples Counselling package is like a mini health check for couples who have doubts about their relationship but can't put their finger on why. This online or in person package will identify the strengths and challenges in your relationship and provide recommendations for the way forward.

Successful relationships are often less about being suited to each other and more about partners being able to:

It provides a reduced fee per session and introduces you to:

• reasonably regulate their emotions
• remain connected with each other (fondness and admiration, etc.)
• adjust/adapt to relationship and life change
• maintain and develop standards for self and each other
• communicate in a collaborative and empathetic manner

The Couples Counselling package includes:

• 3 consultations with an experienced couples' psychologist
• 3 online personality and relationship tests
• The results of your tests
• Recommendations for future treatment

Many people who experience relationship difficulties assume it is because they made the wrong choice of their partner – and they just need to meet a more suitable person.

While this may be true in some cases, it is often a way to avoid facing problems. Problems such as different emotional needs, cultural backgrounds, interests and personalities can be overcome through a deeper understanding of each other and themselves.

How does it work?

Once you have booked in, reception will contact you to arrange your appointments. They will send you the online screening tests to complete and intake forms to fill in.

Each partner needs to fill out the tests independently and under test conditions without discussing them with each other until after they have been completed and returned to us.

Your psychologist will discuss the results of the tests with you both during your sessions and a final report combining your results will be sent to you, that provides insight concerning similarities and differences between you and areas to 'watch' or work on.

The three consultations will all be conjoint sessions.

How much does it cost?

The Couples Counselling package costs $950.

Medicare rebates are available for 10 sessions per calendar year with a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP. However, the person with the plan must attend the session to claim a rebate.

• Consultations with a clinical psychologist start from $250 and a Medicare rebate of $141.85 may apply for each session you attend, making an out-of-pocket fee of $108.15 per session.

• Consultations with a registered psychologist start from $220 and a Medicare rebate of $96.65 may apply for every session you attend, making an out-of-pocket fee of $123.35 per session.

Online Testing

You will be sent several online tests during the assessment process that have between 20 – 170 multiple choice questions. They are easy to fill in, but it is important that you follow our test conditions to get the most accurate results.

How to follow test conditions

• Complete every question in one sitting
• Fill them in alone and in one sitting– you can share later.
• Do not be distracted by watching TV or talking to anyone else.
• Be honest as this will help validate your results.
